The Olympic Force needed another win. They just got it. The Snohomish Skyhawks came to visit the Olympic Sports Center Saturday night and they brought everything they had to try and get the upset over the Force.
In the first quarter, goals from captain, David Meherg, Kevin Flavin and Brent Ricigliano had the Force leading by one going into the second quarter. In the second quarter, the Force exploded for 4 unanswered goals courtesy of Joe Sammartino and Kevin Flavin sandwiched by 2 goals from league scoring leader Alex Hernandez. That would put the Force on top 7-2 with just under 8 minutes to go in the first half and things looked well in control.
What happened after that was probably the worst 15 minutes the Force have played all season. Snohomish would pull two goals back before the end of the half. Then would put 3 more away in the first 6 minutes of the third quarter before the Force finally turned things back up a notch. Hernandez and Flavin would each get their third goals in the final 6 minutes of the quarter and the Force defense would kill off another penalty to take a 9-7 lead into the final quarter.
Again, Snohomish came out with passion and energy to try and steal some points. They would score twice to bring the game level before Leo Potts gave the Force the lead 10-9. Snohomish kept pressing and leveled the game again at 10. With under 3 minutes to play, Ralston beat two guys down the middle of the field and hit a snapping shot at the right post that the Skyhawks keeper parried away before Pottsie came in to pound away the rebound to give the Force the win on the night 11-10.
Goals: Flavin, Hernandez, 3; Potts, 2; Ricigliano, Meherg, Sammartino, 1
Assists: Bugbee, Potts, Kollars, 2; Flavin, 1
It was a fun night for the over 340 fans in attendance. Posters were given to the kids, the clubs of the North (Kitsap Alliance, Tracyton SC and North Kitsap SC) were all in attendance to walk out the players before the game and we honored special guest Louie Bond of Futbol For Life and Kitsap Cup with a check from the Force Foundation in support of the 36 kids sponsored by the event in Sierra Leone.
